The PTPC BIM Working Group and BIMFórum Portugal promoted, on 28 November, the 1st National BIM Workshop under the theme “BIM in Portugal: The state of the art and the future”.

Through the various testimonies presented and a very open sharing of experiences, in an initiative that was attended by over 250 participants, it was possible to conclude on the main steps that have been taken in this area, as well as the constraints that have been placed on its implementation…
On the basis of the national determination for a wider adoption of BIM, and according to the general opinion of the participants, should be the implementation of national BIM standards, having also been considered the compulsory adoption of this methodology, similar to the trend in other countries. Interoperability, procedure standardisation, the involvement of the various agents in the construction process and the creation of a collaborative network were critical aspects several times highlighted as fundamental for the optimisation of BIM implementation. Among the presentations made by architectural firms, designers, consultants and builders invited to present their experience in the use of BIM, the advantages in terms of error mitigation, the possibility of anticipating decisions, the improvement of quality, efficiency and project control and also its use as a commercial tool became clear. For António Ruivo Meireles, Coordinator of the BIM Working Group, the organisation’s goal was achieved, having laid the foundation for the dynamization of the concept in Portugal.
